The low-floor tram for Düsseldorf is based on a prototype developed by Siemens. In cooperation with DUEWAG and Rheinbahn AG the low-floor tram was adapted to regional requirements. The design focus was primarily on the redesign of the vehicle front, the design of an ergonomic driver's desk and the redesign of the passenger compartment. The arrangement of running bogies under the vehicle ends enhanced the safety and the performance of the vehicle. In curves, the vehicle ends do not drift over the tracks and the driver is less exposed to transverse forces than in conventional vehicles. He also gains a better overview. Thanks to this new configuration, a wide entrance directly behind the driver's cockpit supports the communication between passenger and driver.
